Can foreigners register their marriage in Dubai?

The UAE, including Dubai, is a Muslim country, so if you are not a Muslim, you need to register your marriage at the church or at the embassy. There is no civil ceremony in the UAE, only religious ceremonies according to the Islamic law. The list of religions is limited: Muslims, Christians, Hindus.

Can Russian citizens register their marriage in Dubai?

Yes, they can. You can only be registered at the Russian embassy (if the embassy agrees to this) or you can get married in a church. And the groom must have a resident visa, or a rental agreement in Dubai, or a contract from a job in Dubai.

The documents must be translated into Arabic in order to be valid in the UAE.

If you are a Muslim and you want to get married according to Islamic law, in addition to the documents published above, you need:

1.Valid UAE residency visas.

2.The father of the bride, guardian or lawyer must accompany the couple to the marriage

3.You need 2 Muslim male witnesses.

4.If the groom is twice the age of the bride, this marriage is by consent of both parties and must be confirmed by a court.

5.Agree on the bride’s right to continue her studies, work, or to waive her right

Local marriages are registered at the courthouse.
