3. Marriage

All of these documents need to be apostilled, and after that they need to be translated into Spanish and then this translation needs to be apostilled again.

How to organize a wedding in the Dominican Republic?

If you prepare the documents on your own, you may need from 2 months or more, as well as to arrive in advance to legalize the documents and submit all the documents to the registry office. You do not need to obtain a visa in advance.

Documents required for an official wedding in the Dominican Republic differ depending on the citizenship of the newlyweds.

1.Birth certificate with apostille. Or a notarized copy with apostille. Since everything that we give to the local registry office — is not returned. Therefore, it is better to make a duplicate of the birth certificate for yourself if you plan to give the original

2.An ordinary copy of your passport.

3.Certificate from a notary that you are not currently married and can marry. With apostille.

If one of you was previously married, a divorce certificate is also required. Also with an apostille. If your names on your passport are different from the names on your birth certificate, you need documentation of how the change was made.

Usually you do not need to translate anything into Spanish.  Therefore, scans of documents should be with us at least 4 weeks before the date of registration and then you send the original documents to us, so that at least 3 weeks before the date of registration they will be with us in the Dominican Republic.

How is a marriage certificate legalized in the Dominican Republic?

The process of legalizing a marriage certificate is as follows. After the wedding in the Dominican Republic, the certificate is taken away to be apostilled. This takes 2 to 3 weeks. The certificate is apostilled at the local registry office. After that it is sent by DHL to your country of residence. And you yourself translate it into your language.
