The church is located in the old part of Budva, on Starogradska Square. Opposite the church is the Archaeological Museum, which serves as a landmark, although the church itself can be seen from afar. The architectural style of the church confirms its belonging to the traditional Byzantine style. The walls of the church are lined with alternating rows of white and red bricks. The building was built at the request of the Montenegrins themselves. The construction began at the end of the 18th century, and was completed at the beginning of the 19th century.
The interior decoration of the church was done by the Greek artist Naum Zetiri.
