Tatiana came to us exactly one month before the wedding date. We listened to her and immediately flew out to a meeting to discuss all the details with her. After all, she was in St. Petersburg and her fiancé was in Norway. We were always in touch, our meetings were held remotely, in online conference mode. Sometimes Tanya flew to Moscow and personally took part in meetings with contractors and discussing details of the program.
Our couple traveled to many countries around the world, but inspired by the atmosphere of hospitality and the anticipation of exquisite cuisine, they chose Georgia for the celebration. For the bride, this country is associated with the most incredible colors of sunsets over the warm sea. That is why it was decided to make a «floating» wedding in Batumi.
A wedding abroad is always a certain specificity with its own nuances, which are not found in the same capitals. In a short time of preparation we picked up the venue, inspected restaurants for the welcome dinner and the second day of the wedding, and also brought the most famous chef Gruzi from Tbilisi. He designed an exquisite menu of Georgian dishes for us. We also did a careful casting of waiters to make sure everything was on point.
We marveled at the fact that Russia is neighbored by such an interesting friendly Russian speaking country. It’s a mix of warm country, deep old culture mixed with delicious cuisine and the vibrant flavor of homemade wine. The mild climate and deep traditions have allowed a wedding held in early October to be warm in every sense.
The morning of the momentous day started in the presidential suite of the Hilton with an overview view of Batumi. When the bride gathered her bridesmaids, they set off for a photo shoot along the most picturesque local route.
The bride’s incredible shoes would have been perfect for a Cinderella fairy tale. Elegant shoes of crystal shine were delivered from England and became a special experience for all the girls.
The Russian-speaking bride and groom and their guests from Norway united guests and participants in a colorful burst of Georgian national traditions. The English-speaking host made universal understanding possible, although everyone was already in the mood for multicultural communication.
The wedding party for the closest loved ones was held on a famous Georgian ship, the only one of its kind on this coast. We were the first Russians to celebrate a wedding on a ship.
From the very beginning, guests were greeted by the national Georgian band — a working theater troupe. Sprawling Georgian dances left no one indifferent, the guests could not sit still. Seating cards and menus were decorated with quartz and pictures of Georgian mountain peaks.
Each guest was given a toasting horn. During the evening, many inspired by this, practiced eloquence like Georgian elders.
Here everyone could be in the role of a hot Georgian dzhigit. We prepared a photo zone with traditional papakhas, robes and real sabers. The guests could not only try on the image, but also learn traditional dances.
The ceremony, already a special and key moment of the holiday, was held against the backdrop of sunset.
Georgian artists and an international cover band entertained the guests. A gorgeous original cake with three delicious floors complemented the composition of the evening program.
The evening ended with an unforgettable fireworks display. Local residents told us that they had never seen such a thing at any holiday before.
Afterword. Without knowing the local mentality it is very difficult to communicate with contractors and conduct business — this is a separate local feature. The policy of any business here in one word can be described as «vas-vas». The desire of local contractors to recommend their «proven contacts» can turn out to be double-bottom mishaps that cast a shadow on our professionalism. To avoid this, we study the market of the state where we are going to work beforehand.
For example, it took us a week to get in direct contact with the ship’s administration. But even here we had our own nuances.
We gathered specialists for this holiday from all over Georgia, as they call it, from scratch. The geography of the holiday in Batumi turned out to be much wider: equipment was brought from one place, furniture from another, tableware and decorators from another.
